What's your go-to between revolver or semi auto?

I have been going back and forth on this forever. Revolvers are dead simple, you point, shoot, and there are no jams to worry about but semi-autos give you way more capacity and faster reloads. For everyday carry or home defense, what do you guys actually prefer? I want to hear real experiences, not just spec sheet comparisons

My EDC is a semi-auto, the one that I grab first is also a semi-auto. Neither one of them have ever had any sort of malfunction. I will occasionally carry a revolver in the woods, that’s a S&W 329PD, it is not easy or fun to shoot, it’s for emergencies only, but it sure is nice to carry.

My buddy carried a Glock 19 for years until a failure-to-feed during practice spooked him, he switched to a snub-nose .38 revolvern and says he sleeps better knowing it'll always go bang when needed

That 329PD sounds brutal but perfect for the woods..if your semi-autos have been good, that's what matters, nothing beats real-world reliability over years of carrying.

One bad experience can totally change your mind, that's the thing with revolvers even if they're slower to reload, you know that trigger pull is gonna fire every single time

I've heard this argument so many times, it's not how many round you have but were you put the first one or two. For everyday carries I like a PPKs with an extra mag. lite drops in a pocket, same with a Glock 48 or a S&W 66 2.5" weak side carrier. For woods carrier IN A CHEST HOLSTER so you can get @ it quick a 44 or 45 Colt cursing in the side by side, or pick up. Just my 2 cents.

Do you find the weight difference between your Glock 48 and S&W 66 affects which one you grab for daily carry?

Yes the S&W is more weight, but carrying a speed loader, visa a exact clip comes out petty close to the same, and the clip is more bulky,so a trade off it's just what are you comfortable and confident with. Range time and learning your weapon is all importation, when and hopefully never getting into a situation were ones has to use it. But being prepared is key.

For urban defense I carry a Ruger SR1911 or a Ruger Security 9, depending on concealability.

In the woods, I carry a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44mag, either the OM 7 1/2" or the NM 3 1/2"

Fortunately, with everybody carrying for in town carry my little Ruger LCR works just fine. I guess for woods walk I'd carry one of my 1911s for now but I do very little woods walking now so don't really need anything bigger.
