Kept my mouth shut about a guy's carry setup

He was printing a little and if I'm honest, the holster looked questionable and the grip choice seemed off too. I got about half a sentence into "hey man" before I caught myself. He's a grown adult, he hadn't asked for input and I wasn't his instructor, so I let it go. Nobody likes the unsolicited advice guy at the range and there is no need to become that guy in the parking lot too. Have you ever caught yourself about to give advice nobody asked for?

Yup just this past weekend. I was at our outdoor range which has signs posted no automatic, binary, bump stocks, or FRT when I heard an automatic firearm three benches up from me. I said something and shortly thereafter they left. We are not an anti-gun range but those types of actions are dangerous in the wrong hands and it's hell on our targets and stands. Plus we are on Federal lands and under Federal supervision whether we like it or not.

If rules are posted, it’s fair to speak up. Glad they left without escalation, better for everyone’s safety and equipment.

Often rules are posted for CYA. They may not care if they are obeyed, just so long as they are covered in case of an "incident".

Not only are the rules listed but an e-mail was sent to all members and it's post on the web site.

I think we've all been there. There's a time and place for advice but if someone isn't asking for it and there's no immediate safety issue, keeping it to yourself is usually the better call.

My range actually expects members to enforce the rules. It's explicitly stated on the membership stuff and the website. You're well within bounds to request someone's membership card, verify their current status, and call them out if they violate range rules.

Well everybody is armed and I'm not interested in a shoot out.

Sure. Just saying how my range works. They don't have range officers or anything like that.
We have a range officer sometimes. And we have plenty of local. county, and federal police shooting at the range and I prefer to let them handle it if need be.

I am a member and a safety officer. I have no issue with someone breaking rules if they don’t have a problem being corrected in a friendly manner. If they persist I photograph license plate and their picture to the owners and other safety staff. Ours is a family range. There isn’t room for unsafe acts or major rule breakers. We aren’t range nazis who are always looking for a reason to speak. But we take our range safety seriously. Been with them since opening an know the owners. They make it very clear with each and every iteration of newbies what is and is not excepted. So it’s not new news to a member. Might also mention I shoot and train with local PD firearms instructor so there is usually several safeties available at all times.
