I was tired that morning, the kind of tired where everything feels slightly heavier than it should. My head wasn’t in it and I seriously considered skipping the match. For a minute, I even talked myself into it then I went anyway. I just shot the match like I normally would and tried not to overthink it and somehow it ended up being one of my best performances of the year.
What surprised me wasn’t the score, it was realizing how much of the work had already been done long before that day. The training shows up even when you don’t feel ready for it. That match changed how I think about feeling prepared. It turns out readiness isn’t always something you feel in the moment, sometimes it’s just something you’ve already built. I almost stayed home and I’m glad I didn’t.
