Planning a trip to visit family and trying to figure out the best route. I'd like to bring a firearm with me, but going through New York State makes that tricky. Avoiding NY adds a ridiculous amount of drive time, and I'm not sure if it's worth it. I've heard a few stories about folks getting themselves into a mess just by passing through. Fairly new to this whole road trip with a gun thing and could use some guidance. Anyone else dealt with a similar situation? I'm open to suggestions on how to make this work without adding too much time to the journey.

I'd leave the gun home. You are entering what's called CHT (communist held territory) the penalty for having a firearm legal or not can lead to a felony conviction and a permanent loss of firearm ownership.. Just recently a retried veteran visiting family in Massachusetts was convicted for having a firearm and in now in prison serving a ten year sentence.

New York and Massachusetts has some of the strictest gun laws in the country inspite of the Bruen Decision.

I took the chance last winter, due to a death in the family, very bad weather across the country, I drove. Had two in the truck, worst state IL !!!!!! Everything went fine.

As long as you are not stopped for anything or no one steals your rig. Travel in CHT with a firearm is risky as it's a potential for a long prison term.

I would take the gun (or guns) & go around the bad states no matter how much time is added to the trip. I do not leave home without a firearm or 3. Good luck with your trip!
I don't know how Alan can do that if he is heading to the Northeast every state to one extreme or another is anti-gun. Get caught with a gun in any of those areas and it'll probably lead to prison time.
