Montana's wide-open spaces and varied terrain make it a playground for hunters and shooters alike. While everyone talks about the usual suspects, there are some underrated firearms that really shine out here:
  • Ruger American Predator – A lightweight, accurate bolt-action rifle that handles everything from prairie dog towns to distant deer stands. It is perfect for hunters who want precision without the premium price.
  • Savage 10/110 Series – Often overlooked, Savage rifles combine a solid trigger and reliable accuracy with a variety of chamberings, and it is great for long-range hunting in Montana's open country.
  • Henry Big Boy Steel Carbine – This lever-action in .357 or .44 Magnum is perfect for hunters who want a compact, fun rifle for brushy areas. It's underrated but packs a punch.
  • Browning BAR Safari – Semi-auto reliability with excellent ergonomics. Great for bigger game in Montana where follow-up shots might be needed.
  • FN SCAR 17S – More tactical than traditional hunting, but its .308 punch and modularity make it an underrated long-range option for precision shooters.
These guns don't always get the spotlight, but for Montana hunting and shooting, they're great performers. Is anyone else running something off the beaten path that deserves recognition? Please share

I've been very happy with my Ruger Predator in .308 Also happy with the Hybrid 46 suppressor attached to it.

That's a good list. I'm a huge fan of the Tikka T3x. It gets overlooked sometimes, but for the price, it just shoots lights out. That smooth action and out-of-the-box accuracy are hard to beat out in the open country

Montana's terrain really does demand versatile gear. I've had great success with the Ruger American Predator myself, it is lightweight and deadly accurate for the price. That Savage trigger is seriously underrated too. What chambering are you running in yours?

Tikka T3x is absolutely great..that action is butter-smooth, and the accuracy is legit right out of the box. It definitely deserves more love. What caliber are you running in yours for Montana hunts?

I am running mine in 6.5 Creedmoor...the Ruger American Predator really punches above its weight class. It is good you're getting good results with yours too
