I know the recoil is coming, but I can't help but tense up. Even when I tell myself not to, my body does it anyway. Flinching is such a mental battle, has anyone found a trick that actually works?

Don't think about the recoil. I know that is tougher than one would think. But practice will get you pass thinking about the recoil. Accept that every once and awhile you will flinch even the best of the best do that from time to time.

Yeah, your brain hits the panic button before your shoulder even gets the memo.

A good recoil pad can help and reduce bruising. I’d still flinch if I was using the stock recoil pad of a Tikka. They suck. Make sure you have good eye relief so you’re not worried about getting scoped. I like to practice dry fire and hold super precise as I squeeze and go through my routine and get into a good position. Focus on a good trigger squeeze straight back and hold. I honestly can’t feel too much difference now between my 7mm-08 and 7 PRC but I can see the difference on video. I do struggle to see the impacts with the boom of the PRC and anything above that I’d probably start not enjoying it. I guess it depends on what you are shooting? Are you getting hurt at all when shooting? You talking 308 or 300 Win Mag?
