Last winter I learned a funny but painful lesson about cold-weather gun lube. I took my handgun out during a snowstorm and it felt fine leaving the truck until the slide froze up like peanut butter on ice halfway through. I switched to a low-temp synthetic after that and cleaned it properly, and it’s been smooth ever since. Anyone else ever had their gun freeze mid-draw?

Oh yeah, happened to me once in a blizzard, slide felt like molasses. I switched to a low temperature synthetic lube, kept the gun in an inside jacket pocket, wiped off snow before shooting and ran a quick function check, I haven't had a freeze up since.

Yep, happened to me in a blizzard, slide froze mid string. I switched to a low temp synthetic, kept the pistol in my jacket, wiped snow off and run quick function checks...I haven't had a freeze since.

Nice call. Jacket pocket and wiping snow saved me once too. Low temp synthetic plus quick function checks are my routine. I keep mags dry and run a full function check before heading out..

Ugh, molasses slide is the worst. I use low temp synthetic keep the pistol inside my coat, carry a micro towel, and cycle the action a few times before shooting in deep cold.
