"budget build" cost more than buying complete

I told myself I'd save money building my own AR. Started with a $60 lower, then 'upgraded' to a better barrel, nicer trigger, free-float handguard, and before I knew it I'd spent $1,400 on a rifle I could've bought complete for $900. The math didn't math, but at least I know every part intimately. That's what I tell myself to sleep at night anyway.

Classic “budget build” logic, you save money by spending more but at least it’s exactly yours.

I buy and very thing works as it should I leave it IF I want an improvement I get it then seems to cost a little/lot less hahaha but then again where is the fun in that

I tend to buy parts here and there. It’s just like reloading for me; it’s way better buying $67 of bullets, then $60 for powder than spending $300+ on 100 rounds of factory ammo. With that logic it’s easier to swallow a $300 barrel here, or a $200 handguard there, than a $900 rifle all at once. Plus I get to put it all together.

You beat me to it. Spend $900 for a complete rifle plus $1400 to rebuild the rifle to what you want or spend $1400 to build exactly what you want from the get go. Seems like a no brainer to me. Been there, done that.
