I’m new to concealed carry and trying to choose the right 9mm ammo. What hollow points do you all trust for personal protection? Would love to hear your experiences!
i haven't had to shoot anyone ......yet ....but for putting down smaller critters like dogs just regular cheap range ammo seems to work well...
A lot depends if your most likely scenario will be in a apartment or with a lot of people around, then I would look for something that doesn't over penetrate...
The trickest ammo in the world only works if you hit your target.....So practice with whatever ammo you end up with.
I don't trust any hollow point bullet. They clog up too easy. Try the 90 gr. Xtreme Defenfer by Lehigh or Underwood. Also there is Honey Badger by Black Hills with the same bullet shape. I am not an expert but I am almost 80 years old & started shooting when I was 7 yrs. old. Was a cop for 14 yrs. & had an FFL for 12 years. Youtube has videos of how these work in ballistic gel. Check them out! Happy shooting!!!
I ran a Glock 19 9mm through 50–100 rounds each of Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot and Hornady Critical Defense. All fed flawlessly; HST and Gold Dot showed consistent expansion and weight retention, while Hornady sometimes fragmented a bit
