I'm still waiting for my 38-55 rifle but I'm wondering if anybody has used jacket bullets in BPCR rifles? I don't compete so I don't have to worry about that.
From all my research that seems to be the case jacket bullets with smokeless and some type of lead (cast or swaged) for black powder.I haven’t personally but most BPCR folks stick with cast bullets. Jacketed can work, just watch pressures, fouling and barrel wear closely.
Thanks. I don't have the time or the place to cast lead bullets so I was wondering about jacket bullets with black powder. It seems that the copper from the jackets coats over the black powder fouling and can cause erosion real fast if proper cleaning isn't used. It's recommended to use a copper cleaner first to remove the copper followed by one's best method for removing black powder fouling.I've used jacketed bullets in my rifles when I'm just messing around, not competing. They were fine for just shooting for fun. I wouldn't load them super hot, but for casual shooting they worked okay.
