Layers are overrated...quality base layer is everything

Everyone says dress in layers. Sure, fine. But if your base layer sucks, nothing else matters. I spent money on good merino wool base layers and it changed cold weather hunting completely. Stop cheaping out on the foundation. What cold weather gear investment actually made the biggest difference for you?

Merino base layers changed the game for me too. Most cold weather hunters I know will tell you to start with a good base layer, then add from there.
